Is Porsche Developing A Three-Row SUV?

Porsche is said to be exploring the possibility of adding yet another SUV to its growing line-up.

A report from Automotive News says the German carmaker is developing a vehicle that’s larger, longer, and wider than the Cayenne (see lead photo). The new SUV will be reportedly have three rows of seats. This is based on renderings shown to Porsche dealers at a meeting in the U.S.

The new Porsche SUV, due in about five years, is reportedly an all-electric SUV. It will be co-developed with Audi and Bentley.

The addition of the new three-row SUV comes at a great time for Porsche because it’s meant to attract younger customers. Currently, the median age for Porsche car owners as a whole is 60, compared with 38 for the brand’s crossovers.

During the same dealer meeting, Porsche revealed their strategy to transition from combustion engines to an all-electric line-up. By 2030, the automaker expects that 80 percent of sales will be composed of battery-powered and plug-in hybrids.

Among the plans are for the Cayman and Boxster to go all-electric by 2025, two years later than the Macan’s transition to becoming a purely EV nameplate. As for the iconic Porsche 911, the carmaker is still ruling out an EV version, but a hybrid is expected towards the end of the decade.
