Chinese automaker GAC Motor has hired Stephane Janin, former design director of concept vehicles at Renault Group, as director of its advanced design center.
“Stephane Janin joining GAC Design reflects the growing international influence and appeal of GAC Design, and we are very excited to be able to widen the appeal to the rich design talent resources of Europe to cement our lead in the industry,” says Fan Zhang, VP of design, GAC. “And with his experience and design vision, Stephane is a perfect designer to lead our continued commitment for innovation in our upcoming Advanced Design studio in Europe.”
Janin has also been appointed director of its European advanced design center which is slated to open in Milan, Italy by 2022.
During his tenure at Renault which spanned 20 years, Janin designed many of the brand’s concept cars. He is known as “the master of concept cars” and his sketches are considered as works of art.
