The Nissan GT-R Says Goodbye To Japan's Highest Tier Super GT Racing

The Nissan GT-R R35 is saying goodbye to its participation in Japan’s highest tier Super GT GT500 class at the end of this year.

The Japanese carmaker, along with motorsports division, Nismo announced that its R35 Nissan GT-R based GT500 racer will end its Super GT participation at the final round of the Super GT 2021 season. It will be held at Fuji Speedway on November 28.

Nissan’s 2022 challenger will be announced at a later time, but it’s rumored to be based on the new Z sportscar.

The GT500 spec Nissan GT-R designed and developed by Nismo started racing in 2008, scoring seven wins out of nine races in its debut season. It has been victorious a total of 41 times over 14 seasons, which is the record for the most number of wins for a model in GT500 history.

Nissan and Nismo say that it will continue to participate in both the FIA GT3 and Super GT GT300 where it will continue to provide vehicles, parts, and technical support. The road car will also continue to be manufactured and sold.
