2022 Lexus RZ To Get Tesla-Like Yoke Steering Wheel, Subaru All-Wheel Drive Tech

Lexus is set to grow its line-up with their first-ever RZ. Teased shrouded in white in these teaser photos, the 2022 Lexus RZ is set to be their newest electrified model.

The premium Japanese carmaker’s announcement is slim on details (they didn’t even announce an exact launch window), but it’s very clear that the RZ is a crossover of some kind.

Going further, the silhouette is suggestive of the recently launched Toyota bZ4X which signals that the Lexus RZ would be a dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV).

If this is true, it will also be the first Lexus vehicle to benefit from e-TNGA—the platform co-developed by Toyota and Subaru specifically for EV applications (it has already spawned not just the Toyota bZ4X, but the Subaru Solterra as well). It will also stand from a torque-vectoring dual-motor setup as well as a steer-by-wire system which will use a ‘yoke’ style steering wheel.

Unlike the system found in the Tesla Model S, for example, it will allow the Lexus RZ (and the Toyota bZ4X) to switch ratios on the fly.

Lexus says the RZ will go on sale in Europe and Japan by 2022.
