Honda Ends Production Of Civic Hatchback In Thailand

The chances of seeing the all-new Honda Civic Hatchback land in the Philippines has been dealt a big blow after the five-door hatchback has been axed in Thailand due to poor sales.

Joining the Jazz in the big parking lot in the sky, the Civic Hatchback hasn’t really sold well for Honda. Even on a good year, the sedan would outsell the hatchback ten to one. Given these statistics, Honda has decided not to bring in the latest Civic Hatchback to Thailand, and opting to stop production of the five-door model there altogether.

Without an ASEAN source, it’s unlikely that Honda will be able to bring in the latest Civic FL at a competitive price (the Thai-sourced Civic is already priced from P 1.290 million to P 1.690 million).

Honda does produce the all-new Civic Hatchback in Japan, but from all indications, it only seems to produce right-hand drive versions of the hatchback.

This would leave the Philippine market with only one remaining choice for those who want a compact hatchback: the Mazda3. Revised for 2022, the Mazda3 will come standard with a 2.0-liter engine, while the top-of-the-line version will carry a hybrid system for the first time.
