Nissan Shows Possibilities Of EV Packaging With Single-Seater Racer Concept

Is Nissan working on their own one-make all-electric single-seater racing series? That could very well be, but for now, they’ve released a proof of concept using the Ariya EV’s powertrain.

Inspired by their participation in Formula E, Nissan brings forth the Ariya Single Seater Concept which puts the powertrain of their all-electric SUV and plops it into a single-seater racing car chassis. This gives this concept dual motors and the revolutionary e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system (which is also helping Nissan go to the moon).

Officially, the entire thing is exploratory, but it does highlight the efficiency of an EV’s packaging.

In terms of design, the single-seater takes cues from the Ariya SUV. At the front of the vehicle is the electrified and illuminated “V” motion, familiar from Nissan’s current road car design language. At the side view, inspiration has been taken from the Ariya’s fluid and efficient surfaces, but exaggerated to an extreme, using carbon fiber.

Nissan says its motorsports program is a two-way street technology-wise. Not only does technology transfer from track-to-road, but in the case of the Ariya Single Seater Concept, it could also be road-to-track.

Should Nissan create its own all-electric one-make single-seater series using this as basis? What do you think?
