If you think the Ford Shelby GT500 is still too tame or ordinary, well this muscle car may be for you: the 2022 Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang.
Limited to just 180 units, including 45 for the global market, the “King of the Road” boosts the output of the supercharged V8 engine to more than 900 horsepower on regular (93 octane) pump gas. Aside from that, it adds a more aggressive suspension tune, and a diet that cut around 13 kilograms (30 pounds) thanks to the use of an ultra-light dry carbon hood.
In terms of options, Shelby is offering a couple such as a rear seat delete package and even a wide body kit.
The 2022 Shelby GT500KR is only the third time in history that a version of the Shelby GT500 has carried the “King of the Road” name. The first was in 1968 when 1,570 were sold, followed in 2008 when a total of 1,712 units were produced.
Production of the 2022 Shelby GT500KR starts in the first quarter of next year in time for Shelby’s 60th anniversary. Plans are also underway to offer it as an upgrade kit to 2020 and 2021 Shelby GT500 vehicles.
