Chevrolet PH Recalling 435 Tahoe, Suburban SUVs For Defective Airbag Inflator

The Covenant Car Company has announced that it’s issuing a safety recall for a total of 435 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe units. These units, initially part of the Takata driver’s airbag inflator recall now require a replacement of their Takata passenger airbag inflator as well.

The Preventive Safety Recall, as TCCCI officially calls it offers the following units:
  • Suburban: 2007 (53 units), 2008 (76 units), 2009 (15 units), 2010 (80 units), 2011 (56 units), 2012 (35 units)
  • Tahoe: 2007 (49 units), 2008 (41 units), 2009 (5 units), 2011 (11 units), 2012 (14 units)
These vehicles are part of the broader airbag inflator-related recall that has affected most, if not all, global car manufacturers. They were recalled once before for their driver airbag inflator, which were replaced, however, it was determined that the passenger airbag is affected as well.

To recall, it centers around the inflator used by Takata. The non-desiccated phased stabilized ammonium nitrate propellant used in these airbags may degrade over time especially when subject to high humidity and/or high temperature environments.

So far, Chevrolet has reported no death or injury resulting in the defective Takata airbag inflator across the ASEAN region.

TCCCI will replace the affected airbag module at no costs to customers.

For customers who wish to coordinate with their dealer regarding the airbag replacement, they can contact their nearest authorized Chevrolet dealer.
