Ford Unleashes Most Powerful Street-Legal Bronco Ever: The 2022 Bronco Raptor

Ford has finally released the most powerful street-legal Bronco ever, one that combines two of their most iconic off-road brands: Bronco and Raptor.

Starting with the Bronco frame foundation, the Ford Performance team added reinforcements helping it deliver a 50 percent body-in-prime torsional rigidity increase over the standard Bronco four-door model. From there, they added new shock towers that increased wheel travel and off-road durability as well as a heavy-duty bash and skid plates that line the entire driveline.

From there, it has upgraded axles that increase the track width by 8.6 inches over the base Bronco, while larger front and rear driveshafts support the increased wheel torque. Minimum ground clearance is up 4.8 inches to 13.1 inches (333 millimeters). The new front and rear control arms help deliver maximum wheel travel of 13.0 inches in front and 14.0 inches at the rear, or 60 percent and 40 percent more, respectively, than a Bronco base model.

At each corner, the Bronco Raptor comes with 3.1-inch Fox shock absorbers with internal bypass semi-active dampers. Suspension height sensors and other sensors at each corner monitor terrain conditions independently hundreds of times every second and adjust suspension tuning accordingly. It also comes with standard 37-inch BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires (37x12.50R17LT) mounted on optional 8.5-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

Powering the Bronco Raptor is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. No specific output has been given yet, but Ford says they’re targeting 400 horsepower. It will also come with intercooling and air induction systems designed to endure desert temperatures.

Setting the Bronco Raptor apart from regular Broncos, it gets the ‘FORD’ block lettering as well as model-specific LED headlights, amber DRLs, and integrated amber marker lamps. It also gets a heavy-duty modular steel front bumper with removable bumper end caps and LED fog lamps and off-road lamps for better illumination. Meanwhile, the hood features an integrated vent.

Inside, the Bronco Raptor has an exclusive Performance View on its all-digital 12-inch cluster. It also gets standard marine grade vinyl seats and rubberized washout flooring. Owners though can opt for suede/leather combination seats with a vinyl-wrapped instrument panel topper. It also comes with orange and low-gloss carbon fiber accents. Despite its go-anywhere capability, it continues to have cutting-edge infotainment in the form of a 12-inch SYNC 4 system and a 10-speaker B&O sound system.

The Bronco Raptor will be released to US customers by the middle of this year.
