Road safety has been a long time global and national priority. Data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2018 estimate that 1.35-million lives are lost due to road accidents each year. In the Philippines, the Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System recorded 65,032 accidents with 337 deaths in 2020 in Metro Manila.
Although the lockdowns have significantly reduced the accidents, everyone wants to dream of much safer roads. This is the center of Honda’s vison of Safety for Everyone—a vision where everyone, not just drivers and drivers, but all vulnerable road users, is protected.
This strong advocacy is reflected as early as 2015, with Honda Cars Philippines being one of the first carmakers in the country to offer a suite of driver-assist safety technology known as Honda SENSING in the Honda Legend. Since then, it found its way to the Honda Pilot in 2016 and then onto the CR-V, Accord, and updated Civic Type R soon thereafter.
Today, Honda is equipping more models in the country with Honda SENSING. The recent launch of the 11th generation all-new Civic highlights the latest version of Honda SENSING given the usage of a monocular camera while eliminating the radar. Its new camera setup has better recognition and can now measure the distance target of the vehicle or obstacle ahead. This gives the compact sedan access to the following high-tech safety features:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) – The system now recognizes pedestrians during day and night, bicycles, left / right turn across path, and preceding motorcycles.
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF)
- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
- Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW)
- Auto High-Beam (AHB)
- Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN)
I hope this Honda Sensing will make way to the HR-V, top of the line BR-V and to the City Sedan and Hatchback RS E-HEV soon...
ReplyDeleteIt already does in Thailand where we source our Hondas. They just need to make it standard across all variants like in Civic, then they should be able to differentiate themselves from the other mainstream brands.
DeleteI was eyeing the city rs for our 2nd car but the lack of honda sensing made me look at the almera. But that engine and no armrest just rubs me the wrong way. Ended up with the new civic instead. After having a montero with autobraking, Im never buying a car without brake assist. Im excited for the new HRV, I hope they give us the hybrid.
