Honda may be proud of the all-new HR-V’s award-winning design, but that’s not stopping them from recreating their compact crossover for the North American market.
Splitting its design and development from the rest of the world, Honda just gave a tease of what US of A’s HR-V would look like. It looks very different from the global model with that hexagonal grille, trapezoidal headlights, and fairly large lower air intake. It also happens to gain proper rear door handles too, something our upcoming model aimed to hide.
Honda hasn’t revealed any specifics as of yet, but expect the North American HR-V to be bigger than the one sold elsewhere. Based on the teaser, Honda’s also gunning for a much rugged, outdoorsy market akin to Mazda and the CX-50. It will also likely share the Civic’s platform and its powertrains so expect Honda to plop in either a normally-aspirated 2.0-liter or a turbocharged 1.5-liter. Of course, the twin-motor hybrid system is also very likely.
Honda Cars Philippines has confirmed that three all-new models will arrive in the country this year, the HR-V being one likely candidate. It is rumored that it might get a standard turbocharged engine just like the Civic.
