Although all Hilux GR Sport models worldwide receive the same Gazoo Racing design mods—Heritage-inspired TOYOTA badging on the grille, high-gloss black accents, and the like—the European model is based off the regular Hilux as opposed to the ASEAN/Philippine/Japan version (read our first impressions) which uses the Hilux Conquest (Hilux Invincible in Europe) as its base. This is evidenced by the different grille and front bumper design, and even 17-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the European Hilux GR Sport gets more or less the same equipment as its Asian counterpart including carbon fiber inserts, leather/suede seats with the Gazoo Racing badging, and aluminum pedals. It’s differed only by the red deco line that runs the entire length of the dashboard.

Underneath, the same 204 horsepower, 500 Nm of torque 2.8-liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel is found as is the 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The European version gets the same monotube shock absorbers, although their version also comes equipped with new front coil springs (painted red, of course) and returned rear leaf springs with new bushings. Toyota says this should improve straight-line performance, ride, and rear grip. Oh, and the Euro Hilux GR Sport also has automatic limited slip differential and Active Traction Control for improved off-road capabilities.
