Costing 3,035,000 Yen (P 1.352 million), this is as basic as Subaru BRZs go. Outside, it deletes niceties such as the fog lamps and even the wheels have been downgraded to 16-inch steelies.

However, because it’s meant as a blank canvas for the one-make Toyota Gazoo Racing GR86/BRZ Cup, Subaru’s motorsports division, Subaru Technica International (STI) did some work. STI outfitted the car with an engine oil cooler and added cooling fins for the rear differential.

And speaking about its mechanical twin, Toyota does offer the GR86 in a similar stripped-down trim, but it does not have a factory-installed roll cage.

The rest of the mechanicals remain the same, and for that, it comes with a 2.4-liter boxer 4-cylinder engine with 235 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. And because this is meant for track use, the only gearbox option is a 6-speed manual.

Inside, it also gets a 6-point roll cage and a mounting point for a 6-point safety harness. It also deletes the side and curtain airbags, and of course, sound deadening. Surprisingly, despite the roll cage, Subaru says the Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic keeps its 2+2 seating configuration which should make it slightly more practical?

Of course, Subaru’s keeping this special version of the BRZ a Japan exclusive for now. But, there’s no questioning that parts such as the engine oil and rear diff cooler may become must-have mods for those considering the all-new Subaru BRZ.
