An all-new Toyota Innova may be upon us. Spied in Thailand ahead of its supposed launch this November, the best-selling MPV may benefit from a brand-new platform and hybrid engines.
The test mule is currently almost fully covered with only bits like the wheels, greenhouse, and parts of lamps exposed. The general lines though point to the fact that the all-new Innova will likely stick close to the current MPV’s formula though it looks to gain larger alloy wheels and LED taillights.
Like the Hilux and Fortuner, the Innova is still running on a two-decade old IMV platform, a platform that may be swapped for the more advanced TNGA platform. If Toyota does continue to share platforms for its MPV, pickup truck, and SUV range, it will corroborate earlier reports saying that the Hilux and Tacoma will use one global platform moving forward. Other speculations suggest that the Innova will eschew its body-on-frame platform and rear-wheel drive altogether for a monocoque construction and front-wheel drive.
In terms of engines, it’s already been confirmed by Toyota that the all-new Innova will be made available with a hybrid engine, at least in Indonesia. However, not much is known on the fate of the diesel engine. If the Innova does switch to a front-wheel drive platform, it may mean the demise of the diesel which is configured for a rear-wheel drive platform.
More information on the all-new Toyota Innova, codenamed 560B, is expected to trickle out before its launch later this year.
The Innova is already tried and tested, but I hope Toyota will give the MPV a much better design, tech, & infotainment.
ReplyDeleteIf I may suggest, the exterior design of the Rush may be utilized.
The Raize's infotainment is much better than those found in certain TMP vehicles.
As for tech? I'm not sure if the Coolray's and Territory's tech are sustainable/durable.
At least the ugly fangs were extracted.
