For those complaining that the Toyota Hilux GR Sport could use more power rather than aesthetic improvements, well, your prayers have been answered. The thing is, you have to be in South Africa to enjoy it.
Launching in May, Toyota South Africa previewed their Hilux GR Sport which gets a 10 percent boost in both power and torque than the regular Hilux. The 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV engine has now been tuned to make 221 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque—figures easily beating the current Ford Ranger Raptor.
The South African Hilux GR Sport is closely related to the one launched in Europe, so we know it is a global model. However, Toyota has not given any indications as to whether the power bump is exclusive to that market or whether Toyota will offer it elsewhere.
Should Toyota bring in this more powerful Hilux GR Sport to the ASEAN and Philippine markets, or do you think the current outputs are sufficient?
