Honda Shows Off The 2023 Integra In Production Form

After showing it off in prototype form last November, Honda’s premium brand, Acura is officially bringing back the Integra as a premium sport compact.

Arriving at U.S. dealerships sometime in the first quarter of this year, the 2023 Integra shares its basic engine and platform with the Honda Civic Si. It’s powered by the same turbocharged 1.5-liter VTEC 4-cylinder making 200 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 260 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 5,000 rpm. Engineers though have added a new coil type exhaust system for an “emotional exhaust sound.”

This is then mated to either a CVT automatic transmission with an integrated step shift programming or a short-throw, close-ratio 6-speed manual with a helical limited slip differential (LSD). An Integrated Dynamics System also allows drivers to choose between three drive modes (four for the A-Spec).

Chassis-wise, the 2023 Integra comes available with adaptive dampers for a more precise control of the ride and handling performance. Of course, the foundation itself is built on the 11th generation Civic’s rigid body and sport-tuned chassis.

The Integra continues Acura’s “contrast design” language. Upfront, there’s the frameless Diamond Pentagon grille framed by four JewelEye LED headlights and “Chicane” LED daytime running lights. At the back are dual exhaust finishers and single piece LED taillights. It comes with three wheel sizes: 17-inch, 18-inch, and 19-inch.

Inside, the mesh pattern on the Integra’s dashboard should be very familiar to Civic owners. However, because of the Integra’s upscale positioning, it does receive its own unique body-stabilizing seats with up to 12 ways of adjustment for the driver and 4 ways for the front passenger. The driver also benefits from a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster and a digital touchscreen in either 7- or 9-inch sizes. It also has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and a 5.3-inch heads up display.

The standard speaker count is eight, but the Integra’s coup de grâce is a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D audio system with two speakers actually mounted in the headliner above the front seat passengers.

Integra also features a segment-first new generation of driver and passenger front airbags, specifically designed to cradle the head and reduce the risk of brain injuries, especially in offset collisions. Integra’s aluminum hood features an embossed inner structure that will distribute the force of an impact with a pedestrian’s head in the event of a collision to reduce the likelihood of injury.

The Integra also shares the Civic’s camera-based driver assistive system (here called AcuraWatch). It bundles Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) that can distinguish between vehicles, pedestrians, and even bicycles, Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), and Traffic Jam Assist (TJA). The company also adds a more natural feeling Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS).

Also standard on every Integra is a blind spot information system (BSI) with Rear Cross-Traffic Monitoring. The optional Technology Package adds front and rear parking sensors and Low-Speed Braking Control (LSBC).

Production of the 2023 Integra will mark the first time Integra is built in America, to begin soon in Marysville, Ohio.
