Your eyes aren’t deceiving you. This is rumored to be the first-ever Toyota GR Corolla, the newest member of the Toyota Gazoo Racing family, and depending on your point of view, it has the funkiest, or stupidest exhaust design put in a modern car.
It’s worth pointing out that the exercise isn’t purely aesthetic as the triple-exhaust layout does manage to bring up the outputs of the 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder to an even 300 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. That’s about 40 horsepower and 10 Nm of torque over the GR Yaris on which the engine originates from.
Still, Toyota designers seemed to have left the exhaust piping design at the last minute with the normal round tips at the corners joined by a big oval exhaust at the center. Apart from that weirdness though, the rest of the GR Corolla package is what you’d expect with the power bulge on the hood, front fender vents at the sides, a carbon fiber roof (exposed and not wrapped like the GR Yaris), and fat rear flares.
Toyota has yet to reveal the full official details, but reports say that the GR Corolla will be offered with just a manual gearbox contrary to rumors of a dual-clutch or torque converter automatic. It will also share the GR Yaris’s GR-Four all-wheel drive system which uses a multi-plate clutch of shuffle power between the front and rear wheels.
Full details will be revealed tomorrow so stay tuned.
It's weird and sad that PH doesn't get the Corolla hatchback in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI think its because we source our corollas here within SEA. We're probably gonna get something like a GR sport with a hybrid and CVT .
