Toyota Motor PH Adds New Variant To Corolla Cross Range (w/ Specs)

Toyota Motor Philippines is adding a third variant to its Corolla Cross compact crossover family with the market introduction of the Corolla Cross GR Sport.

Picking up where the Corolla Cross 1.8V HEV variant leaves off, the Corolla Cross 1.8 GR-S HEV gets a sportier re-design with a gloss black mesh grille, 18-inch GR design two-tone alloy wheels, and smoked LED rear combination lamps. Inside, it has specific GR-S leather seats, a GR logo on the starter button, new piano black elements, and a power tailgate with a hands-free kick sensor.

The sportier design cues are backed up by a suspension tweaked by Gazoo Racing. The new springs and shock absorbers are said to give it less body roll and improve handling, while the electric power steering system has been recalibrated for quick responses.

Engine-wise though, Toyota’s left the Corolla Cross GR Sport pretty much alone. With that, it pairs a 98 horsepower, 142 Nm of torque 1.8-liter with a 72 horsepower, 163 Nm of torque electric motor. The combined peak output is rated at 122 horsepower.

Safety-wise, the Corolla Cross GR Sport benefits from an updated Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system which now includes all-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with Lane Tracing Assist (LTA). The improved TSS system also makes its way into the 1.8 V HEV variant as well.

As for pricing, the Corolla Cross GR Sport is priced at P 1.774 million. The rest of the Corolla Cross variants—the Corolla Cross 1.8 V HEV and 1.8 G CVT retain their pricing at P 1.665 million and P 1.303 million, respectively.

  1. I really like the engine (1.8 NA) and exterior design of the Corolla Cross (esp in white color). But the G variant is too pricey (P1.3M) for the cheap features, cabin materials, infotainment, etc., considering that you get better features at lower prices in many competitors.
PS. Similarly, the Honda HRV (also w 1.8 engine) is too pricey.

  2. Given the stupidly ridiculous fuel prices nowadays, I extremely appreciate driving a hybrid vehicle now.
