2023 Subaru Outback Gets More Aggressive Styling

Whoa. Time flies quickly for the Outback as Subaru unveiled a refreshed version of it at the New York International Auto Show for the 2023 model year.

The 2023 Outback receives a bolder look first seen in the Solterra EV. The new front face incorporates a more prominent grille, redesigned LED headlights and fog lights, and a more rugged front bumper. On the sides, it gets expanded wheel arch cladding that provide additional protection.

On top of the aesthetic changes, the 2023 Outback comes with the latest version of Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. A new wide-angle mono camera that works together with the current dual-camera to expand the field of view. It also recognizes pedestrians and cyclists sooner, especially at intersections.

Aside from the expanded EyeSight tech, the Outback also gets a camera-based smart rear-view mirror ala the Evoltis. It also adds a couple of USB Type C charging ports to the usual USB Type A.

These changes aside, the Outback continues with its usual set of features including a 11.6-inch tablet-style infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wireless for 2023), and a Driver Monitoring System which uses an infrared camera and facial recognition tech to identify signs of driver fatigue or distraction.

Mechanically, the Outback continues with a normally-aspirated 2.5-liter or turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-4 making 182 horsepower and 260 horsepower, respectively. Both engines are paired to Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT with eight virtual gears.

What do you think of the new look?
