Chevrolet Teases All-Wheel Drive, Hybrid-Powered Corvette Sportscar

Chevrolet has confirmed that its Corvette sportscar is going electrified, first as a hybrid in 2023 and by 2024, as a fully-electric vehicle.

With Chevrolet having aspirations of going fully electric by 2035, it makes sense for them to electrify their high-performance sportscar at some point.

Though the carmaker has yet to divulge exact performance details, next year’s hybrid Corvette will either by full- or plug-in hybrid (no mild hybrid). It will also wear a body style similar to the current mid-engine, internal combustion engine Corvette. Performance-wise, it’s expected to slot between the base and top-of-the-line Z06 although it will be the first production Corvette in history to have all-wheel drive.

After that, Chevrolet is likely to follow the Ford Mustang’s playbook in offering the all-electric Corvette with a different body style to the hybrid and conventional engine version. The fully-electric version will be powered by the carmaker’s proprietary Ultium battery technology.

The all-electric Corvette will also debut a heat-capturing technology which takes the heat generated by the EV batteries to warm the cabin, create more efficient charging conditions, or increase vehicle acceleration. It’s also expected to boost its overall range by 10 percent.

The all-electric Corvette, which is rumored to take on the name, “E-Ray” is expected to become the highest performing version when it launches.
