Due to the resurgence of COVID-19 at its suppliers Toyota Motor Corporation is forced to revise its global production plan despite an “intentional pause” slated from April to June.
Toyota is planning to cut down its global production footprint by 100,000 in May to 700,000 units (200,000 units at Japan-based plants and 550,000 units at global plants).
Moreover, the carmaker says that the shortage of semiconductors, spread of COVID-19, and other factors are making it difficult to look several months ahead. That said, they will make “maximum efforts” to deliver as many vehicles as possible to customers at the earliest possible date.
For the month of May, Toyota is suspending ten production lines in 9 plants out of a total of 28 lines in 14 plants. The suspension is as little as a day to as much as six days.
Among units affected destined for the Philippine market include a bevy of Lexus models—the LS, IS, RC, NX, and UX . Production of the Toyota RAV4 and even the Coaster are hit as well.
