2022 Toyota Veloz Aces ASEAN NCAP Test

The all-new Veloz is the latest Toyota model to score a 5-star safety rating at the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program or ASEAN NCAP.

The 7-seater sub-compact SUV is the first Toyota-badged model (the Raize’s mechanical twin, the Perodua Ativa was actually the first) to be tested using the stricter 2021-2025 assessment protocols. Like the Raize, it managed to pass with flying colors with an overall score of 79.99 out of 100.

When it came to Adult Occupancy Protection (AOP), the Veloz scored 34.88 out of 40 percent. It showed “Good” protection on almost every aspect save for the driver’s chest which received only “Marginal” protection. Regardless, the ASEAN NCAP notes the stability of the crash structure in the frontal offset test.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Child Occupancy Protection (COP), the SUV scored 17.17 out of 20 percent, scoring perfect when it comes to both Frontal and Side Impact tests.

For Safety Assist Technologies, the model tested has Toyota Safety Sense or TSS. This enabled the Veloz to reach 16.03 out of 20 percent. It could have scored higher if the TSS automatically detects and brakes for pedestrians (it doesn’t). Regardless, it does manage to function according to ASEAN NCAP standards.

Plus, with blind spot detection, it also scored 11.92 out of  20 in Motorcyclist Safety (MS).
