Is Nissan Building a NISMO Version Of The All-New Z Sportscar?

Is Nissan working on a NISMO version of the yet-to-be-launched Nissan Z sportscar? That seems to be the case based on what’s happening over in Japan.

Unveiled by Nissan’s motorsports division, NISMO, the Nissan Z will be competing at the NAPAC Fuji Super Tec 24-Hour endurance race at the Fuji Speedway in June. Unlike its Super GT cousin, this isn’t just a silhouette racer, but based more or less on the production sportscar. For track duties, modifications include more cooling vents, a roll cage and an adjustable rear wing. Details on the mechanical changes will be announced closer to the event.

Even more interesting is that the Nissan Z will be competing in the ST-Q class which is a special class dedicated to experimental vehicles approved by the organizer, Super Taikyu. They don’t necessarily correspond to other classes in the series. This could mean that Nissan is using the race to validate a possible hardcore version of its sportscar.

It must be reminded that the outgoing 370Z did manage to spawn the more hardcore 370Z NISMO.

For the race, Nissan is fielding in two cars, one raced by NISMO and the other by Max Racing. Both will have a team of five drivers each.
