Yet another Subaru has been recognized for its outstanding safety: the all-new 2022 Subaru BRZ. The second-generation rear-wheel drive sportscar has been given a Top Safety Pick+ by the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or IIHS.
The Subaru BRZ received the IIHS’s highest honor for the first time in the model’s history thanks to the addition of Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as standard on models with the automatic transmission. The Subaru BRZ joins other models in receiving a Top Safety Pick+ IIHS award for the 2022 model year:
- Subaru Evoltis – Top Safety Pick+ for five consecutive years
- Subaru XV – Top Safety Pick+ for four consecutive years
- Subaru Legacy – Top Safety Pick+ for 17 consecutive years
- Subaru Outback – Top Safety Pick+ for 14 consecutive years
To earn a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ award, vehicles must receive ‘Good’ ratings in each of IIHS’s six crashworthiness evaluations; ‘Good’ or ‘Acceptable’ headlight ratings, and available front crash prevention that achieves “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. The ‘Plus’ is awarded to models that come exclusively with ‘Good’ or ‘Acceptable’ headlights.
The 2022 BRZ is powered by a normally-aspirated 2.4-liter Boxer engine making 237 horsepower and can be paired to either a 6-speed close-ratio manual or 6-speed electronic direct-control automatic transmission. Pricing starts at P 2,399,000.
Since 2013, Subaru has received a cumulative total of 62 Top Safety Pick+ awards, which is more than any other brand.
