The Subaru Outback is the safest vehicle tested last year by the Japan New Car Assessment Program or JNCAP. This marks the second consecutive year that Subaru has won the highest recognition from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) and the National Agency for Automotive Safety and Victim’s Aid (NASVA) after the Levorg (aka WRX Wagon)’s recognition last year.
The Five-Star Award, as the recognition is called, is given to vehicles that have received the “A rank” evaluation for both collision safety performance and preventive safety performance. The Outback received 95.07 out of 100 in collision safety, and 81.95 out of 82 in preventive safety during its JNCAP test.
In the area of collision safety performance, the Outback has adopted the combination of the Subaru Global Platform and a full inner frame construction, which achieves higher rigidity and crash absorption compared to the previous model. Moreover, a second load path structure has been adopted with the aim of reducing damage not only to the occupants of the own vehicle but also to those of the collision partner in the event of a crash.
In the area of preventive safety performance, the new-generation EyeSight with wider viewing angle improves collision avoidance at intersections and various other situations.
Subaru will continue to enhance its safety technologies with the goal to achieve zero fatal road accidents among occupants of Subaru vehicles and people who collide with Subaru vehicles (including pedestrians and cyclists) by 2030.
