About 18 months after it was first unveiled in Japan, Mazda is starting to roll out the updated CX-8 three-row SUV for the Southeast Asian market.
Produced at their manufacturing facility at Inokom in Malaysia, the 2023 CX-8 receives the same visual updates first seen in the Japanese market model. These include a new grille insert, 19-inch alloy wheels, additional exterior chrome bits, and the availability of two new colors: Polymetal Gray and Mazda’s newest signature color, Platinum Quartz Metallic.
Inside, the standard kit has been upped and now closely matches the recently-launched CX-5 Turbo. These include features such as wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless device charging, and a frameless rear-view mirror. The Deep Red napa leather seats also add a ventilation function as well (the current version only has seat heaters). Seating configuration depends on the grade with the base models getting a 2+3+2 (7-seater) layout, while higher trim versions getting 2+2+2 (6-seater) layout.
The Mazda i-Activsense system has also been upgraded to include all-speed adaptive cruise control and full speed autonomous emergency braking. Other features such as blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, a 360-degree camera, and automatic high beams have been retained.
As for engines, Malaysia, the first market to get the refreshed CX-8, now adds the option for the turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Also found in the CX-5 Turbo, this mill makes 228 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque using 91 RON gasoline. The CX-8 Turbo is also the sole variant to get all-wheel drive. Front-wheel drive variants, meanwhile, continue to use the normally-aspirated 2.5-liter which is still good for 192 horsepower and 258 Nm of torque. All CX-8s used a 6-speed automatic.
With Bermaz also serving as Mazda’s distributor in the Philippines, it will only be a matter of time before the updated CX-8 makes its way locally. It’s very likely that it will make an appearance at the upcoming Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) in September.
Now i can say dat mazda is a premium brand wd affordable price compared wd others premium brand. Kudos mazda
