The launch of the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX is still a week away, but Motor Image Pilipinas just can’t keep their excitement. A week before its official Philippine unveil, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the country revealed its full specs.
As a refresher, Motor Image will be bringing in three variants of the WRX sedan and two of the WRX waon. Pricing is as follows:
- WRX sedan M/T – P 2,508,000
- WRX sedan CVT – P 2,658,000
- WRX tS sedan CVT – P 2,808,000
- WRX CVT wagon – P 2,558,000
- WRX tS wagon CVT – P 2,708,000
While the manual has been improved, the CVT gets the bulk of the changes. It offers 30 percent faster upshifts and 50 percent faster downshifts than before. It also incorporates adaptive shift control that can quickly respond to perform rev-matching downshifts under braking, maintain the ideal ratio through corners, and respond faster on corner exit. Total ratio coverage range has been enlarged, and lower ‘fixed’ gear ratios have been revised to improve acceleration and response.
Moving on to the handling, all WRXs will benefit from the Subaru Global Platform which ups the overall torsional rigidity by 28 percent; suspension mounting rigidity is also up 75 percent. It also has a longer suspension stroke for increased stability, while the rear stabilizer, now mounted directly to the body, contributes to less roll during cornering. Further differentiating the WRX sedan, it has pillow ball bushings for a more precise suspension feel, while the wagon has rubber bushings for a more pliant ride.
In terms of exterior features, all WRX variants will use LEDs for its lighting. It will also come with UV protection glass on all sides. A sunroof comes only on the CVT-equipped WRX sedans, and oddly enough, just the WRX tS wagon. The sedans will ride on thicker 245/40R18 tires, while the wagons will sit on 225/45R18s.
Inside, the WRX comes with the 11.6-inch tablet-like center information display and dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents as standard. However, the MT variants have to make do with cloth seats, while the WRX sedans and WRX tS wagon gets grippy Ultrasuede. The non-tS WRX wagon, meanwhile gets leather seats with contrast stitching. There’s also a bit of give-and-take in terms of features. The WRX tS sedan will receive an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while the rest stick with a regular 6-speaker system, but do get the convenience of a hands-free power tailgate.
The tS or Tuned by STI variants are differentiated by the felt-lined door pockets and various STI logos decorating the exterior, steering wheel, instrument cluster.
Like all Subarus, the WRX comes with cutting-edge safety. All two-pedal variants come with Subaru EyeSight as standard which now adds autonomous emergency steering and lane departure prevention. The CVT variants also have blind spot monitoring, rear automatic braking, and auto-dimming rearview mirrors. The Driver Monitoring System, meanwhile is standard regardless of transmission as is a rear-view camera.

That 0-100 for the CVT is too optimistic. Lots of videos show its a lot slower.

ReplyDeleteUnlikely. The globally approved specs for the Outback is the 2.5 NA. It'll be a big (but pleasant) surprise if Subaru does make the 2.4 XT available for global markets.

Apparently, the BRZ has just seen a price increase of 120K across the board. If that's true, the BRZ is now priced at P 2.519M. More expensive than the base WRX. We'll confirm if this is true.
DeleteThe tS variants dont have power seats? Nice point about the bushings. Explains why reviewers were saying that the wagon was a more comfortable ride.
