Should Nissan PH Give The Altima Another Try?

Should Nissan Philippines give its Altima another chance here in the Philippines? If they do, it could very well be this.

As a refresher, the Altima was part of Nissan Philippines’s launch line-up way back in 2014. Since then, it saw a refresh two years later before bowing out just before the arrival of the sixth-generation model.

If Nissan does decide it wants to compete in the executive sedan segment, they could very well do it with the 2023 version which gets updated design and new technologies.

Outside, the 2023 Altima adopts the latest expression of Nissan’s V-Motion grille and the re-designed logo. For the sporty SR trim, a new black chrome grille finish further differentiates it from the other grades. LED headlights are now standard, while 17- or 19-inch wheels cover the wheel wells.

Inside, the refreshed Altima features revised instrument panel finishing and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with multi-touch functionality. The crisp, clear screen also features wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless phone charging. Android Auto is available, but requires a cable.

Powering the Altima is a choice between two 4-cylinder engines. The base normally-aspirated 2.5-liter does 188 horsepower and 244 Nm of torque, while the 2.0-liter Variable Compression (VC) Turbo does 248 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. Even better, the VC-Turbo is able to change its compression ratio between 8:1 (for performance) and 14:1 (for efficiency). The result? A mixed city/highway 12.32 km/L figure.

When it comes to safety, it comes with the entire gamut of Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite: Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Lane Departure Warning, radar-based Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and High Beam Assist. It also has a 360-degree camera (Intelligent Around View Monitor).

The 2023 Altima goes on sale in the U.S. starting the third quarter of this year.

  4. Bring in Kicks and X-Trail (Qashqai) E-POWER and the Magnite instead.

If Nissan Altima will be brought in as their halo car, why not (but since the market is extremely small now, one hybrid variant I guess?) But then, it's still unprofitable for them.

  6. Bring it to compete with the gorgeous Mazda 6, ugly Accord & boring Camry! Nothing compares to the cushy ride & superb handling of a long wheelbase midsize sedan with fully independent suspension. 3rd-world AUVs, MPVs, CUVs & PPVs can never match those attributes.
