BYD Set To Enter Japanese Market

BYD, the world’s largest electrified vehicle maker will be entering the Japanese market as the next step in their global expansion. Three all-electric vehicles will be sold there starting 2023.

The first model will be the Atto 3 and will go on sale in Japan by January. This will be followed by the Dolphin in the middle of 2023, and the Seal (lead photo) in the second half.

Japan, a market dominated by the likes of Toyota, Nissan, and Honda, will become a major test for BYD’s product design and engineering, as well as marketing efforts. It also becomes the third developed country BYD is targeting with its electrified vehicles following Norway and the Netherlands.

Last December, BYD began delivering the Tang EV SUV in Norway. Earlier this month, it signed up European car dealer Louwman Group to distribute electrified cars in the Netherlands.

The Philippines, New Zealand, Singapore, Brazil, Costa Rica and Colombia are among the smaller markets where BYD also sells its EVs.

In March, the company, partly owned by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett, stopped producing gasoline cars.

  2. If someone's eyeing an ev sourced from a chinese brand, byd is the only car brand you can trust. The rest, still needs to gain its reputation.
