New car sales jumped 26.8 percent in June to 28,601 units compared to the same period in 2021. This was revealed in the latest Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines and Truck Manufacturers Association’s CAMPI-TMA) joint report.
Just last June, the auto industry sold 28,601 units, a month-on-month increase of 8.5 percent compared to May 2022. Passenger car (PC) sales remained flat, growing just 1 percent to 7,457 units compared to 7,382 from 2021. Commercial vehicle (CV) sales, meanwhile surged 39.4 percent to 21,144 units from 15,168 units from a year ago. Asian utility vehicle (AUV) sales are up 55.1 percent to 4,055 units.
In terms of trucks, Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) is up 38.4 percent to 16,294 units, while Light Trucks are up 10.4 percent to 437 units. Both Category IV and Category V trucks though showed declines of 5.6 percent and 11 percent respectively to 285 units and 73 units.
For the first half of 2022, the Philippine car market reached 154,874 units sold, up 16.7 percent from January to June of 2021. PC sales are down 8 percent to 39,003 units, while CV sales are up 28.2 percent to 115,871. AUV sales are also up 14.5 percent.
Last month, Toyota Motor Philippines remained the best-selling passenger car brand moving 3,886 units followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines with 1,616 and Honda Cars Philippines in third with 901 units.
On the other hand, when it comes to CV sales, Toyota remains the undisputed leader with 10,536 units sold, followed by Mitsubishi in second with 2,090 units, and Nissan in third with 1,373 units.
For the first half of 2022, Toyota has now moved 80,090 units (52 percent) followed by Mitsubishi with 20,734 (13.39 percent). Nissan completes the top three with 11,188 units (7 percent). Rounding out the top five are Suzuki with 9,851 units, and Ford with 8,956 units.

DeleteForget the AUVs. They're gone. No one's marketing it anymore in favor or SUVs, MPVs and crossovers with high ground clearance... unless you're stuck in the year 2001.
