The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Fights Back With Up To 310 Horsepower, 583 Nm Of Torque

Chevrolet may have discontinued the Colorado nameplate here in the Philippines, but it’s alive and kicking in other markets, including the U.S. In fact, their Ford Ranger fighter has just undergone a full refresh offering better performance, capability, and design.

First up, Chevy has opted to simplify the Colorado’s body configuration to offer just one wheelbase and cab configuration. From there, they gave it a more muscular exterior design with the eye-catching grille shield design.

More importantly, Chevrolet worked to improve the Colorado’s interior giving it a standard 11.3-inch colored infotainment screen along with a standard 8-inch fully digital instrument display. Available in four unique interior trims, they all have round outboard AC vents, wrapped and stitched knee pads on the doors and center console, and contrast stitching.

Under the hood, the Colorado uses a 2.7-liter turbocharged engine with varying levels of output depending on the configuration. Horsepower is rated at either 237 horsepower or 310 horsepower, while torque is at 351 Nm, 529 Nm, or 583 Nm. Though shared with the Silverado pickup truck, the engine here gets enhancements including a more rigid cylinder block casing and a stiffer crankshaft as well as a fully forged bottom end.

This engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic with refinements done to offer smoother shifts and quicker downshifts.

In terms of suspension, the Colorado features different configurations depending on the model. All though have a shortened front overhang for an improved approach angle. The new Trail Boss model gets a 2-inch factory lifted suspension and wider tracks for more ground clearance, while the top-of-the-line ZR2 gets a 3-inch lifted suspension and upgraded Multimatic DSSV dampers.

Supporting the 2023 Colorado’s improved off-road performance is its selectable driving modes. Using a knob located at the center console, it offers up to five modes: Normal, Tow/Haul, Off-Road, Terrain, and Baja.

Sadly, for Philippine Colorado fans, the all-new 2023 model is only destined to be assembled in the U.S., reducing the likelihood of it over coming here. Having said that, there’s still a slim possibility that The Covenant Car Company (TCCCI), the exclusive distributor of Chevrolet would bring in lifestyle-oriented models like the ZR2 as a niche model.

    1. That's GM for you. They just simply abandoned their business in SEA altogether (retaining Daewoo-GM Korea though.) TCCCI are just having a real hard time (and it makes matters worse for them, they're having difficulty speccing their new models and had to make do, due to the loss of their best-sellers Colorado and Trailblazer ladder frame SUV.) GM just sucks bigtime.

    2. GM better go bankrupt or don't go back here in our country. They'll abandon their customers again if they did return.

    3. GM won't go bankrupt that easily as their sales in American,Latin American and Chinese markets are higher than Ford and American Stellantis vehicles combined

  3. Chevy will totally pull out from the Philippines and the rest of South East Asia by the end of this decade (2027-2029).

    1. Huh, GM already left as early as 2004 at the time they gradually scaled down operations on Asia (only that they pulled out of manufacturing in SEA altogether a few years ago.)

    2. Chevrolet in the Philippines is just an imported brand handled by TCCCI..General Motors sold and passed its Philippine distribution to TCCCI many years ago.
TCCCI isn't expecting too much from Chevrolet as they're happy and content selling affordable and premium products as they're competing with Jeep and Dodge in the local market.
