Is Suzuki Philippines Launching The Ertiga Hybrid At PIMS?

Is Suzuki Auto Philippines about the launch the new Ertiga Hybrid? That seems to be the case based on a statement made by Norihide Takei, General Manager for Suzuki Automobile Philippines at the press con announcing the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

Mr. Takei confirmed that a new hybrid model will be one of Suzuki Auto Philippines’s highlights at PIMS. Although he was careful not to reveal what this model is, he did say that it “builds on Suzuki’s reputation for producing fuel efficient vehicles.” Furthermore, he said that this model is “their answer to the high fuel prices.”

Looking at the Suzuki global line-up, the most likely candidate is the Ertiga Hybrid (see lead photo). Launched globally in April of this year and regionally last June, the Ertiga Hybrid packs Suzuki’s new Smart Hybrid system.

The mild hybrid system mates the K15B engine with an integrated starter generator (ISG) and a 6-Ah 12-volt lithium-ion battery. This helps bump up the outputs of the 7-seater MPV from 100 horsepower to 104.7 horsepower (at 6,000 rpm), while torque is up to 138 Nm at 4,400 from 130 Nm. An idle start/stop is also standard.

Even if another Suzuki model gets the hybrid treatment altogether, at least expect the refreshed Ertiga to arrive regardless.

Following what Suzuki has launched for the Indonesian market, it stands to get a new grille, redesigned 15-inch alloy wheels, and backdoor garnish with a chrome insert. It should also get a revised meter cluster with full-color multi-information display, and possibly a leather steering wheel as well.

If Suzuki Auto Philippines does launch the Ertiga Hybrid at PIMS, this will be the first small 7-seater MPV to offer a hybrid powertrain which should improve its already impressive fuel efficiency figure.
