Chevrolet thinks it can help buyers transition to fully electric vehicles with the help of their all-new Equinox EV. The most important aspect? They’re targeting a starting price of just USD 30,000 (P 1.704 million) which not only makes it the most affordable compact SUV-sized EV, but also puts it at a price parity similar to conventional and hybrid-powered compact SUVs.
Joining the Blazer EV and Silverado EV by the last quarter of 2023, the Equinox EV rides on GM’s Ultium platform, further flexing the scalability of this platform. The base version of the Equinox EV comes with 210 horsepower and 328 Nm of torque, while the top-of-the-line eAWD version tops out at 290 horsepower and 469 Nm of torque. One-pedal driving functionality is standard, while maximum cruising range is pegged between 250 miles (402 kilometers) to 300 miles (482 kilometers) depending on the exact drivetrain configuration.
Shown in concept form earlier this year, the production Equinox keeps its sleek lines and sporty proportions further enhanced by the standard 19-inch wheels (20- and 21-inch wheels are available options).
Inside, the Equinox EV has a streamlined and modern interior with seating for five. It has a large infotainment screen (up to 17.7-inches) as well as a spacious cabin and numerous storage solutions including a 1,614-liter cargo space (with the rear seats down). The top-of-the-line 3RS variant even gets a Bose sound system, sunroof and a power tailgate.
With the Equinox EV aimed squarely at families, it comes with a wide array of advanced driver assist features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, reverse automatic braking and blind zone steering assist.
