Who says Chinese cars aren’t safe? Although Chinese manufacturers has had mixed fortunes in the past when it comes to safety tests, two new offerings for the European market—the ORA Funky Cat and the WEY Coffee 01 (lead photo) both scored a perfect 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
Both the ORA Funky Cat and the WEY Coffee 01 are manufactured by Great Wall Motor and join the likes of NIO ES8, Geely’s Lynk & Co 01, and SAIC’s MG HS and ZS EV in achieving 5-star Euro NCAP safety ratings.
“We’ve seen good results from some Chinese manufacturers in the past, but also some very poor ones. This year, Euro NCAP will test more Chinese cars than it has ever done and Great Wall really sets the standard for others to follow,” said Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP Secretary General.
The ORA Funky Cat scored a 92 percent in Adult Occupancy Protection, 83 percent in Child Occupancy Protection, 74 percent in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 93 percent in Safety Assist Technology. Meanwhile, the WEY Coffee 01 scored 91 in Adult Occupancy Protection, 87 percent in Child Occupancy Protection, 79 percent in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 94 percent in Safety Assist Technology.
Hoping that Chinese brands here in our country will offer safe and durable vehicles. Geely and MG are mentioned in the article.
ReplyDeletethose car names sound like your nieces and nephews codenames on their games
ReplyDeleteYeah. That's how Great Wall calls their cars. ORA Good Cat, ORA Funky Cat, I think there's also the Big Dog. For WEY, there's the Coffee, Latte, Mocha, and Macchiato.
DeleteThe problem is if they will maintain that quality in actual production
ReplyDeleteAre your jap and or that korean brands who only managed 4 stars and below has able to change in actual production? Except those 5 top notch japs and korean of course but we all know those brands have cars with quality issues also! There are still china craps yes but brands like great wall and byd just to name a few are on exceptions! Face it! China is climbing on top! Don't let your ego eat you alive dude!
DeleteThen why foreign brands dominate the chinese car market? Even chinese dont trust the quality of dear own. Dears no shortcut in making a reliable/durable cars, only thru decades of experience.
DeleteIf you've been across the whole china then that's the time i'm believing you. Of course other established brands would dominate everywhere but there's no stopping china in dominating the world when in comes to technology and that includes cars. As if those established foreign brands doesn't face any quality issues.
DeleteDominate the world in technology??? What are u smoking lately? Almost all of chinas high tech software and advance chips - they buy it in USA, EUROPE , TAIWAN, KOREA. See what happened to huawei when USA imposed tech embargo on it.
DeleteLmao! You did not get the point obviously! And you did not even tried to figured out how china acquired their dominance when it comes to tech, if they buy it or copy it, guess what? It did help their dominance nowadays. How do you call that? That's just pure strategy. I think you're ego's been hurt badly because you know for yourself china with or without your hatred will rise above and you can't do anything to stop them no matter how you insult them every website you can visit. LOL! and guess what, you're just one of those keyboard warriors trying to insult every success of a china brand, be it cars or maybe phones and so on. Huawei? Ahh the jealous yow esh? Have they manage to destroy the brand totally? As in totally?
DeleteYou fanboys are becoming crazy. Wake up to reality. You are using a Chinese made phone dude.
ReplyDeleteIts based on experience dong, iphone although made in china is still wholly owned by apple, so quality is assured. I cant say the same for chinese products made by chinese company.
DeleteThey are fanboys for a reason. Don't bother trying to change the mind of close minded people and besides it's their money used to purchase their vehicle. Just enjoy your car, other people's beliefs will never affect you or your car anyways.
DeleteIts just an exchange of ideas, no hard feelings, just excercising freedom of specs in autoworld😁😁😁

ReplyDeleteI guess we should all have a good sleep since it's almost 10 in our country PHILIPPINES! while china's busy getting richer, their haters are just having fun posting hates towards them that doesn't affect them actually.
ReplyDeleteAga is just a dude who got stuck with rotten 1990's Pinoy mentality who still think Japanese car brands are reliable.
ReplyDeleteWe've seen how bad the quality of some Subaru,Honda,Suzuki,Nissan and Toyota vehicles already.
Chinese car manufacturers are doing very well now compared to Subaru,Mitsubishi and Isuzu that went backwards in terms of progress.
Hmmnn...kotchi99 havent u heard of subaru 4th gen eyesight??? Check out sir uly's meticulous review of chinese cars on dis website...n boom😭😭😭...end of d story
DeleteSubaru vehicles are known for its high maintenance cost engine, lack of engine performance and unreliable CVT transmission..
DeleteI don't really care about that Hitachi sourced ADAS of Subaru and Isuzu as its ineffective in rainy days and darker evenings..Subaru went backwards bigtime while Chinese car manufacturers like Great Wall,Chery,Geely,BYD and others move forward
Great Wall Motors which the owner of WEY and ORA brands is planning to enter the local market again soon but they'll focus on their best selling products like the Jolion and its best selling money maker vehicle H6 SUV.
ReplyDeleteGreat Wall was one of the early Chinese brand and SUV in the market together with Chery,Geely,Foton,JMC,JAC,Changan,Haima,Wuling,DFSK and long gone brands like Fuqi,Gonow,Lifan and Hafei.
Good. More competition like this, with Chinese brands getting the same or better results as the rest of the old familiar brands is good for the consumers.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day more competition is good. It might even push these Jap brands to finally step up and give us better offerings that aren't so watered down in features and tech that you'd be forgiven for thinking you were driving a car from 20 years ago.
