Fuji Motorsports Museum To Open This October

With Japan opening up to non-organized tours starting this month, here’s another good reason to visit: the Fuji Motorsports Museum.

Open to the public starting on October 7, 2022, the Fuji Motorsports Museum follows the 130-year history of motorsports through a display of 40 remarkable racing cars from around the world. These include the likes of the Nissan R382, the Toyota 2000GT, the Hino Contessa, the Sunbeam Grand Prix, the Cistalia 202 Coupe, and the Toyota 7.

The Museum has three main exhibition themes tackling the past, present, and future of motorsports: “The Shift in Motive Power Signals the Dawn of Motorsports”, “Today’s Motorsport Technology Shapes Tomorrow’s Commercial Production Cars”, and “A New Shift in Motive Power Changes the Future of Mobility and Motorsports.”

In addition, the Museum also houses the Fan Terrace on the third floor, an official shop and museum which features panoramic views of the Fuji Speedway. Of course, the shop carries collectible car and lifestyle goods too.

While walk-ins are allowed, but prior reservation is recommended since large crowds are expected, especially for the first year.

Onsite tickets cost 1,800 yen on weekdays and 2,000 yen on weekends and holidays. Yet another good reason to book tickets in advanced is that online reservations net you a discount—1,600 yen on weekdays and 1,800 yen on weekends. Admission is free for pre-school children.

The Fuji Motorsports Museum is located at 645, Omika, Oyama, Sunto County, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It takes approximate 20 minutes by car from Tomei Expressway, Gotemba Interchange or 20 minutes by taxi from Gotemba Station on the JR Gotemba Line.

Reservations for the Fuji Motorsports Museum can be done here.
