Korean Automakers Launching EVs At PIMS

While Kia and Hyundai have different distributors in the Philippines, both Korean automakers are using the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) to preview their respective all-electric vehicle offerings—the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Both the EV6 and Ioniq 5 share the Electric-Global Modular Platform or E-GMP. This high-tech architecture eliminates the many compromises faced by EVs that are created on platforms initially designed to accommodate internal combustion engine vehicles. As a result of its underpinnings, these EVs have class-leading interior space, highly impressive range, and 800-volt ultra-fast charging capability.

The EV6 takes on Kia’s new “Opposites United” design philosophy which captures the contrasts found in nature. At the center of the design philosophy is a new visual identity evoking positive forces and natural energy, with contrasting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and sculptural shapes.

Meanwhile, the 2022 World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year, and World Electric Vehicle of the Year winner, the Ioniq 5 offers Hyundai’s “Parametric Dynamics” design. This philosophy focuses on clean surface styling and enhanced aero efficiency. Meanwhile, the “Living Space” interior theme means a cabin experience that focuses on the human experience.

Neither has Kia nor Hyundai confirmed what powertrain the EV6 and Ioniq 5 will have. But globally, it comes with an array of battery sizes—58 kWh or 72.6 kWh (77.4 kWh inthe EV6), and two electric motor layouts—rear only or front and rear. This helps deliver a total range of up to 528 kilometers (480 kilometers for the Ioniq 5), while offering between 229 horsepower to 325 horsepower (306 horsepower for the Ioniq 5).

  2. Has the Implementing Rules & Reg [IRR] to the new EV law been published? If not then there would be no tax exemptions yet to lower EV prices. Bilisan nyo naman mga Tongressmen/Senatongs. Iisa na nga lang trabaho nyo!

    1. No tax exemptions as some Chinese car importers are gonna abuse it.
