PIMS: Philippines Is Now Kia's 2nd Largest Market In ASEAN

After three years of being part of Ayala, one of the Philippines’ biggest and most respected conglomerates, Kia Philippines is looking back at its accomplishments thus far. While the preview of their all-electric EV6, which is slate to enter the local market by early 2023, took centerstage, Manny Aligada, Kia Philippines president credits their growth of being present in key market segments.

“The recent Kia brand relaunch went beyond a simple change in logo or look. The critical element of our rebranding is the shift from being a value-for-money brand to a brand full of value targeting the next generation car buyers, inspiring them to move forward. Since the rebrand, we have provided continuity with the brand image of Kia both in design and technology,” says Aligada during his speech.

“From the Kia Soluto and how it elevates your daily drive, to the Kia Stonic and its unmatched genius in style and design. From the Kia Sorento that completely exudes power and elegance, to the Kia Carnival and the move to create quality moments—all done in executive class. These are all part of this movement—one that inspires, that paves the way, that is made real,” he adds.

True enough, the new “Kia Movement,” which began locally late last year, saw the opening of several new dealerships to rapidly expand the reach of the automaker. By the end of 2023, they plan to have 50 operational and appointed dealerships.

When it comes to sales, Kia has also performed admirably with a 76 percent growth in sales in 2021 versus 2020. And for the first half of this year, Kia positions itself as one of the fastest growing brands with a 30 percent year-on-year growth; on target for sustained achievement until the end of 2022 despite the on-going global supply chain issue.

“Allow me to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to the Ayala group. Ever since they joined the Kia family in 2018, they’ve been doing tremendous efforts just to make Kia a brand that is trusted and loved by all automotive customers in the Philippines. As a result, the Philippines has become Kia’s 2nd biggest market in South East Asia,” says Joey Hong, head of sales, Kia Asia Pacific.

    3. HARI is still alive as a Hyundai trucks and buses distributor.
Hyundai Philippines has no intention of becoming Top 3 in vehicle sales in the local market as Creta,Tucson,Staria and Stargazer are gonna be hard to sell and they've got major units supplies issues which Hyundai hides.
Accent Sedan their best seller ain't coming back Keane so dream on!

  2. With their best selling entry-level lineup likely bowing out (Soluto & Stonic), it's hard to see Kia maintain this momentum they've got. I could see the Stonic being replaced with the Sonet or even the Korean-made Stonic, but I believe those won't be as competitively priced as the current Chinese-made Stonic is. Most Filipinos are finding the Picanto too expensive for its size while the Rio's hatch-only option is limiting.

    1. Yes, and also we might see the India-sourced Kia Carens in the PH in the near future...

    2. Production of the Stonic and Soluto was extended for another 2 to 3 years in China due to Yueda and Kia are happy exporting these vehicles in the Philippines.
K2500 is also selling thousands of units a year which helps Kia Philippines a lot.
Kia vehicles made in India won't be available in the local market due to pricing issues so DREAM ON!

  5. To Kuchi888, please back up all your claims with references. Or else, we'll continue to call your BS claims as your opinion and not a fact. I've been seeing your comments from Mazda MX-5 articles up to here.

You might not be actually driving or have ever owned a car, or maybe getting into too much car fanfiction lol seriously. The reason why Uly have to disable anonymous comments is due to pseudo-knowledgeable people like you and RG.

  6. We are their 2nd largest mkt....but overall they're losing market share everywhere. "From January to June, Korean carmakers sold a total of 2.1 million vehicles in the world's eight major markets, down 9.9 percent from 2.33 million units during the same period of last year, the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) said in a statement.

Their market share declined from 7.9 percent a year ago.

The eight markets are the United States, Europe, China, India, Mexico, Brazil, Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)." https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/tech/2022/09/129_336250.html

Their sales in the U.S. and Europe fell 18 percent and 14 percent, respectively, in the first six months, while sales in Brazil and Russia declined 15 percent and 57 percent, respectively, KAMA said."
