BMW will soon join the likes of Tesla by offering gaming straight off their vehicle console. This move has been made possible with a new partnership between the German automaker and AirConsole.
Starting next year, selected BMW models, particularly those running on BMW Operating System 8 and its curved display will have access to AirConsole. The games are delivered over-the-air (OTA) and will be run directly inside the vehicle’s infotainment system. Meanwhile, passengers can use their smartphones as controllers.
The addition of AirConsole is just part of a myriad of changes that come with an update to the BMW Operating System 8. The update, will unlock two new My Modes settings, improved charging-route navigation for EVs like the iX and i4, integration of Amazon Alexa, and expanded capabilities to its safety systems such as Forward Collision Warning and Exit Warning function.
Separately, BMW will be rolling out an update to models equipped with the Operating System 7 in the near future as well.
