Mitsubishi Set To Challenge Territory, Coolray, Creta With Made-For-ASEAN B-Segment SUV

Realizing how lucrative the small SUV segment is, Mitsubishi Motors is previewing an all-new vehicle to fight the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Ford Territory, Honda HR-V, Geely Coolray, and Toyota Corolla Cross. Shown as the XFC Concept, it will provide ASEAN customers with a vehicle that provides ample comfort and cargo space while also offering secure road handling in rough or flooded roads.

Set for a launch sometime next fiscal year (between April 2023 to March 2024) and assembled in ASEAN, the XFC Concept features the Japanese carmaker’s “Robust & Ingenious” design concept. This gives the yet-to-be-finalized SUV a powerful, yet sleek look.

Serving as the focal point is the three-diamond emblem upfront, and from there, it extends to the sides and rear. As with current Mitsubishi models, the XFC Concept wears the Dynamic Shield design concept. It has L-shaped headlights with louver-like DRLs that form a T-shape, akin to the Xpander. The same T-shape re-appears in the rear combination lamps giving it styling that accentuates stability and width.

Mitsubishi says the XFC Concept is defined by ease of operation—essential for an SUV. The instrument panel takes on a horizontal design theme with a large display panel integrating a full digital driver display. Furthermore, it promises a spacious cabin with top-level comfort, especially in the back seat.

With plenty of ground clearance and four drive modes — Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud — the Mitsubishi XFC Concept offers a fun, safe, and secure ride. The Wet mode, introduced for the first time in a Mitsubishi vehicle, is designed with use in ASEAN countries in mind, such as enabling safe driving even on roads flooded by sudden showers.

Mitsubishi says the XFC Concept complements the wide range of products tailored to the ASEAN market such as the Strada/Triton pickup truck and its derivative, the Montero Sport/Pajero Sport midsize SUV; the Outlander and Outlander PHEVs; the Xpander and Xpander Cross crossover MPVs; and the Mirage compact hatchback and its variant, the Attrage/Mirage G4.

  1. Appreciate the return of the pre-Dynamic Shield grille design last seen in the final gen Lancer.

  2. If XFC is the size of the Magnite (per rumor) then it competes with Raize, Stonic, WR-V and Hyundai Micro. Territory, Coolray and the like is too big vs a Magnite. Though picture here shows it is much longer than 4mtr.
