New Car Sales Up 64.2 Percent Last September; Chery Auto Philippines Breaks Into Top 5

Fresh from the success of the industry-led 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association recorded sales of 35,282 units sold—a 64.2 percent growth last September 2022 compared to 21,493 units in the same period last year.

Sales of passenger cars (PC) and commercial vehicles (CV) both increased by double digits last September at 21.2 percent and 83.1 percent, respectively. Year-on-year passenger car sales went up to 7,976 units from 6,580 units, while commercial vehicle sales increased to 27,306 units from 14,913 units.

Month-on-month, industry sales also rose by 16.9 percent from sales in August at 30,185 units.

With CAMPI-TMA recording a year-on-year double-digit growth for seven consecutive months, new car sales are showing a 29.5 percent growth from January to September 2022. So far, 248,154 new vehicles have been sold compared to 2021’s 191,605 units.

Year-to-date, industry growth was supported by strong sales in commercial vehicles, rising by 44 percent to 188,096 units from 60,982 units. On the other hand, passenger car sales in the first three quarters of the year fell 1.5 percent to 60,058 units from 60,982 vehicles sold in 2021.

Last September, CAMPI welcomed three new members into its fold: Hyundai Motor Philippines, Sojitz G Auto Philippines, and Chery Auto Philippines. These three new members managed to move 372 units, 1,112 units, and 2,429 units, respectively.

Overall though, Toyota Motor Philippines maintained its strong lead in the industry moving 16,138 units in September 2022 alone, enough for a 45.74 percent market share. Mitsubishi Motor Philippines is in second with 4,932 units (13.98 percent), followed by Ford Motor Philippines in third with 2,896 units (8.21 percent). Chery has managed to break into the Top 5 with 2,429 units sold (6.88 percent) in fourth, and finally, Suzuki is in fifth with 1,637 units sold (4.64 percent).

Year-to-date, Toyota still commands a 50.33 percent market share (124,884 units) followed by Mitsubishi (35,139), Ford (16,244), Nissan (16,068), and Suzuki (14,475).

    2. Possibly bec the data is based on when Chery Ph joined CAMPI, wc was just done recently?

    3. Chery treated their data a bit differently. For example, Hyundai recorded 372 unit sales in September, but sold already 872 year-to-date.

Seems Chery lumped their year-to-date sales as part of their September data.

  3. Nice Chery Ph 👍 Joining the rivalry of MG Ph and Geely Ph 💪
Though admittedly, I'm still for GAC (hoping also for the success of this brand).

  6. Foton and Chery's sales are nice but they've released likely the January to September sales data..Chery is doing well due to the aggressive promotion of the Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 2 Pro which are its volume sellers..Hyundai will take at least another year to get into Top 10 again as the sales of Creta is still low and there are supplies issues for the Staria and Tucson Gas variant..Stargazer would boost their sales though..Sales of Honda dropped when the prices ot Brio and City increased again.
