Next-Generation 2023 Ford Territory Drops In ASEAN


Did you just get a brand-new Ford Territory? Well, it could be outmoded soon as the next-generation Territory just dropped for the ASEAN market.

Just launched in Vietnam, the next-generation Territory blows the current compact crossover in every aspect starting with its head-turning design. While the current model’s meh, this one carries Ford’s new global DNA design. The headlights have been moved down towards the middle for better nighttime visibility and a striking look, while the rear looks much more chiseled and mixes a bit of next-generation Everest in there. Heck, it even comes with 18 or 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the Territory continues to offer a one-size-up space. Front and center is a new instrument cluster design which has two 12-inch screens and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Meanwhile, the traditional gearlever has been changed to a rotary-style one freeing up space for additional storage. Among the features of the five-seater SUV for the ASEAN market include an electronic handbrake, wireless Apple CarPlay, leather upholstery, dual zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, and hands-free power tailgate.


Powering the next-generation Territory is a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine which Ford says gives the same performance as Ford’s own normally aspirated 2.0-liter. True enough, its peak 170 horsepower output matches the old Focus, while also managing to deliver 260 Nm of torque. Now, hope you can trust the brand’s dual clutch tranny again because the CVT’s giving way to a modern 7-speed dual clutch with four driver selectable modes. It also has idle start/stop tech to improve fuel efficiency even further.

For the Vietnamese market, the Territory sports a long list of driver assist features such as adaptive cruise control with stop and go function, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot indicators, tire pressure sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

Now, here’s the real kicker. The next-generation Territory will not be sourced from China, at least for the Vietnamese market. Instead, it will be assembled in Hai Duong, Vietnam with customer deliveries starting in November. Pricing there starts at VND 830 million (P 2,050,000) and tops out at VND 965 million (P 2,383,000).


With Ford launching the next-generation Territory in Vietnam, it’s only going to be a matter of time before it arrives here as well. Here is hoping it can redeem itself.

    1. It's still a Jiangling, but based on the Ford Equator Sport, a size up and even above the Everest.

  2. The 2023 Territory will likely arrive here by Second Quarter next year since the Next generation Ford Ranger Raptor is slated to arrive on First Quarter of 2023...

  3. Vietnam has truly overtaken the Philippines and left it in the dust. Remember when PH was exporting Ford Focus / Mazda 3 twin to Vietnam almost twenty years ago? Back then there was barely a market for four wheelers.

    2. Perhaps it's not profitable anymore to build cars in the Philippines that's why majority of automakers shut down their plants. They have to do something if they really want the car industry to grow locally.

    3. On a bigger scope, it is not feasible to build factories (not just vehicles) in the country. There is labor issue, high cost of production to deal with, generally poor investment climate, ever changing tax rules, poor infrastructure and small market size, etc. Sadly as manufacturing is a big employer so there goes job opportunities as well. Add to the fact that Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand have growing markets for car building so this hopes we don't fall behind Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Brunei in the coming decade.

  5. Based on the price stated here in Dong (VND), this can't be Territory's replacement. It is too high vs current Territory's SRP here. Not unless Ford PH sources this elsewhere; or there could be a lesser variant to meet the bang-for-the-buck advantage of the Territory; or simultaneously sell both old and new same time, Chinese car brands style.

The older Ford Territory will be retained in China and in the Philippines for sales purposes..This is way much cheaper and easier to sell than the much more expensive Equator Sport-based New Territory..The price of the New Territory is likely gonna be around 1.5 Million up to 1.7 Million Pesos which is on the same range as HRV Turbo,Okavango and Azkarra.

  6. Ford JMC is likely gonna revive the Ecosport brand in China but as a small affordable SUV that will compete with the T-Cross,Raize and CS35 Plus..Ford China loves reviving older popular car brands of Ford in China like what they did with the Escort,Mondeo,Taurus,Escape,Territory and Focus.

  7. The rotary gear knob is the most stupid form of gear shift ever installed in an automobile.
    Its been a flop over and over again and some car brands never learn.

    1. Speaking from my experience, rotary shifters tend to be hard to use. They're okay when you're doing one motion, but if you need to switch quickly between modes (like reversing to moving forward), it can get confusing. It's the same with push button shifters. The traditional PRND lever is still the best.
