The GR Sport Is No Longer The Most Expensive Fortuner Variant For Toyota Motor Philippines

Toyota Motor Philippines may be focusing on the fact that the refreshed Hilux and its improved feature set is now available at dealerships nationwide, but the Fortuner also happened to get its own set of updates which happens to mess up its current price structure. Let us explain.

Last month, Toyota Motor Philippines quietly introduced the 2023 version of its 7-seater mid-sized SUV and its slew of new features. We covered that already before, but in case you need a refresher, it’s down to standard bi-beam LED headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels, and the availability of features like paddle shifters, push-start ignition, paddle shifters, auto dimming rear view mirror, rear USB chargers, and more safety features.

At the time, these new features happened to increase the Fortuner’s price tag. But get this, a second round of price increases this month (effective October 13 to be exact) has resulted to one peculiar thing: the Fortuner GR Sport 4x4 is no longer the most expensive variant they have on offer; that honor now goes to the Fortuner 2.8 4x4 LTD.

Wait, what?!

It’s weird but the latest Toyota price list still lists the Fortuner GR Sport 4x4 at P 2,514,000—the same as its September price. However, the Fortuner 2.8 4x4 LTD now starts at P 2,519,000 for the Silver Metallic with Attitude Black Mica roof, while it actually goes up to P 2,529,000 for the Platinum White Pearl Mica color.

For reference, here’s how the other Fortuner variants stack up:
  • Fortuner GR-S 4x4 – P 2,514,000
  • Fortuner LTD 4x4 – P 2,519,000 (P 2,529,000 for Platinum White Pearl Mica)
  • Fortuner LTD 4x2 – P 2,356,000 (P 2,366,000 for Platinum White Pearl Mica)
  • Fortuner Q 4x2 – P 2,089,000 (P 2,104,000 for Platinum White Pearl Mica)
  • Fortuner V 4x2 – P 1,932,000 (P 1,947,000 for Platinum White Pearl Mica)
  • Fortuner G 4x2 AT – P 1,802,000
  • Fortuner G 4x2 MT – P 1,710,000
We’re pretty sure this is just temporary and that a price increase for the Fortuner GR Sport is imminent once the new shipment comes in. But for now, if you want the sporty treatment for your 7-seater SUV (along with a slightly better ride thanks to those monotube shocks), you better plop down a reservation at your nearest Toyota dealer right now and seal the September price while supplies last.

  2. Since there is a price increase in all variants, there must be a significant updates. Updated specs is not yet available on their website.

    2. Seriously? So the overpriced 2.4 variants just got more expensive? Pricing is already unjustifiable. What happened Toyota? What happened to the Fortuner, they are way overprice, too expensive already based on their features? Very annoying to the G variant, similar to the overpriced and bare Mirage and Mirage G4. Better to buy its competitors, priced wisely.

    3. Hi Napoleon, the price increase is justified because Toyota added new features to the G, V and Q variants. Posting here the added features which I copied from this website's previous article:

"So, what has changed? Well, compared to its 2021 update, that’s down to better equipment across the line. For example, bi-beam LED headlights with LED daytime running lights are now standard across the line-up, as are LED front fog lights and LED rear combination lamps. Moreover, all but the base G get 18-inch alloy wheels with 265/60R18 tires (the LTD and GR Sport alloys do get a Machine Cut finish).

Inside, all variants from the V upward now get paddle shifters, a push-start system with smart keyless entry, rear USB chargers, and a wireless device charger. Meanwhile, the Q upward adds an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, auto-dimming rear view mirror, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert. The Q, LTD, and GR Sport still are the only variants to get leather seating (leather/suede for the GR Sport).

Aside from the aforementioned blind spot indicators and rear cross traffic alert, more safety gear finds its way into the Fortuner. Front and rear sensors, vehicle stability control, and hill start assist are standard. Meanwhile, the V upward now adds a standard 360-degree camera. The Q, LTD, and GR Sport, on the other hand, get the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite with pre-collision assist, lane departure alert, and adaptive cruise control."
