The first Hyundai SUV tested by the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program or ASEAN NCAP managed to achieve something which the Stargazer MPV didn’t: a perfect 5-star safety rating.
With previous Hyundai models tested by the ASEAN NCAP being either hatchback or sedan, there were high expectations for the Creta to do well. Its accumulated 75.78 out of 100 is enough for a 5-star rating, beating even the Stargazer’s 66.48 out of 100 score.
In terms of Adult Occupancy Protection, it managed 34.72 out of 40, providing good levels of protection to the occupants with the frontal compartment remaining stable in the event of a crash. However, the driver’s lower legs only showed adequate protection. Meanwhile, in the side-impact test, the Creta showed only marginal protection to the driver’s chest.
When it comes to Child Occupancy Protection, the Creta managed an overall score of 15.56 out of 20.
With the 5-seater SUV tested equipped with anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and seatbelt reminder for the front occupants, it provided for a solid foundation for its Safety Assist Technology helping it reach a 14.08 out of 20 score. On top of that, the Creta evaluated also has Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian, Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Auto High Beam (AHB).
Helping push its score higher, its Motorcyclist Safety score reached 11.42 out of 20 thanks to the available Child Presence Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA). The RCCA is an additional safety technology that Hyundai highlighted in the assessment in which it is able to detect the presence of an approaching vehicle, either from the left or right, while reversing at low speed. The technology will initially provide a warning to alert the driver but it will automatically assist with braking in the event the risk of collision increases.
The ASEAN NCAP extended its congratulations to Hyundai for achieving impressive results for the Creta as its compact crossover met the required vehicle safety performance as stipulated in the ASEAN NCAP protocol.
Based on the result assessments, Hyundai has placed greater emphases on both the safety of its occupants and also other vulnerable road users.
