With a world premiere set in February, Perodua has revealed teasers and initial specs of its upcoming A-segment hatchback. As a Perodua, it’s expected to gain its own unique badging and bumpers, but more or less, the body shell will be shared with the all-new Toyota Wigo.

With that, the all-new Axia (Wigo) is set to get a substantial jump in features. In the revealed specifications, the top-of-the-line trim will have LED headlights, signal lights, and DRLs. It will also get power folding side mirrors with turn signal indicators and pull-type door handles.

In terms of design, the all-new Wigo will feature a front-end with a chrome garnish that connects the headlights through what looks to be a high-gloss black grille.

For its Malaysian debut, the all-new Wigo will be available in five colors: Granite Gray, Lava Red, Glittering Silver, Ivory White Solid, and Coral Blue.

Perodua nor Toyota did not revealed any interior pics, it’s expected that the all-new Wigo (Axia) will borrow heavily from the Raize. Feature-wise, it’ll have a 7-inch TFT multi-information display and a 9-inch floating style display audio system—features which first came out in the sub-compact SUV. Partial leather seats with foldable separate rear headrests are also available on the higher-end variants.

Toyota hasn’t named mechanical specifics surrounding the all-new Wigo, but it seems a shift to the DNGA platform is a certainty. This will allow it access to better crash safety performance. In fact, it’ll probably get a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating thanks to its full set of airbags (6), ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, and Toyota Safety Sense (TSS).

As for powertrains, the all-new Wigo is expected to continue with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine. Likely a carryover from the current model, it’ll be making 67 horsepower and 91 Nm of torque. Curiously, it looks like the entry-level hatchback will drop the manual gearbox option this time around. For the Malaysian market, at least, the all-new Wigo will get the D-CVT or Dual-Mode CVT. The split-gear CVT pioneered in the Raize/Avanza/Veloz will make its way here complete with a Power mode on the higher-end variants. Per Perodua, this helps the Axia (Wigo) reach up to 25.3 km/L or up to 27.4 km/L when equipped with the idle start/stop system.
