Even Hearses Are Going EV: Meet The Ford Mustang Mach-E Based Etive

Even hearses are getting into the zero emissions race, and here’s one converted from the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The Etive from Coleman Milne is designed to carry a person to his final resting place in pure silence. Starting with a bog-standard Mustang Mach-E, the coachbuilder added an additional 114 mm in height allowing it to seat three pallbearers—each with their own 3-point seatbelts (total seating capacity of 7, excluding the dead guy). Of course, it’s got a flat, full-length deck and even a glass roof.

It can even be customized to offer features such as a power tailgate, a full-size sliding deck, and illuminated signage. And because range is so important in an EV, wreaths can be mounted on an aerodynamic wreath rail.

The hearse has a 75-kWh lithium-ion battery enough for a range of up to 322 kilometers—that’s 117 kilometers less than the standard Mach-E. It’s still capable of DC fast charging where a 10 to 80 percent charge can be done in just 38 minutes thanks to its 115 kW charge rate. The battery comes with an 8-year warranty.

And because one dead guy at a funeral is more than enough, the Etive comes packing with all sorts of safety equipment. The Ford Mustang Mach-E’s ADAS system—Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and Pre-Collision Braking are all here. Same with the Ford SYNC and its 15.5-inch central touchscreen.

Etive says they’ll be offering this zero emissions hearse in both left- and right-hand drives and that full regulatory approval will be achieved by the end of the first quarter this year. This is the second EV hearse from Etive, the first being the Whisper, which is based of the Tesla Model S.
