The GAC Group has big plans as it aims to become a world-class auto manufacturer specializing in electrified vehicles. To that end, the Chinese automaker has announced the ambitious “Trillion GAC 1578 Development Outline” which focuses on 1 goal, 5 areas, 7 segments, and 8 actions.
According to the plan, GAC is expected to realize production that exceeds 4.75 million vehicles and reach RMB 1 trillion (USD 145.16 billion) in revenue by 2030. To achieve this goal, they will strengthen their supply chains, build an energy ecosystem, and upgrade their models with “intelligent technologies.”
As of 2022, GAC delivered over 2.4 million units, despite the extended chip shortage, continued pressure from the pandemic, and increasing prices of raw materials. Out of this number, the group’s in-house GAC Motor and GAC Aion brands achieved a total production of more than 620,000 vehicles in China, out of which 43 percent were electrified offerings.
This year, GAC will roll out products running on the AEP 3.0 vehicle platform and powered by an independently-developed electrical architecture dubbed X-Soul.
The first product benefitting from this cutting-edge combination is the GAC Aion Hyper GT—an all-electric mid-sized coupe that offers up to 1,241 horsepower and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of just 1.9 seconds. The 900-volt architecture also means it can charge up to 480 kW which could mean a 10 to 80 percent charge up time as little as 8 minutes.
For now, though, GAC has revealed specs of the single motor version of the Hyper GT which offers 335 horsepower and 434 Nm of torque (0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds). Inspired by liquid metal, the GAC Aion Hyper GT is extremely slippery with a co-efficient of drag measuring just 0.19. Aside from a fully enclosed front fascia, it has front “Sky Doors” which have a dihedral synchro-helix actuation that provides a dramatic experience when entering and exiting the vehicle.
The GAC Aion Hyper GT goes on sale by October 2023. It joins the equally-potent Aion Hyper SSR.
