The 2023 GAC GS3 Outruns The Geely Coolray, Looks Mighty Impressive Too

GAC Motor has unveiled the all-new GS3—a compact crossover designed for Gen Z buyers.

Designed around the central theme of “Super Mate,” the all-new GS3 is designed to match the needs and requirements of Gen Z customers, particularly when it comes to appearance and space.

The compact crossover features a striking design filled with clean, taut lines. It focuses on sharpness and volume, complemented by its more generous dimensions which are 60 mm longer, 55 mm lower, and 25 mm wider than the current GS3. The wheelbase has been stretched by 90 mm, while the front overhang has been shortened by some 31 mm.

Upfront, the all-new GS3 has the “Armor Wing” face which was inspired by a motorcycle helmet. The headlights, on the other hand, are meant to convey the piercing look of “laser eyes,” while the rear triangular lighting elements emulate diamonds.

For the first time, GAC Motor is embracing a sportier identity with the availability of a new R-Style version. The R-Style not only comes with more aggressive aesthetic elements, but backs it up with the fastest 0 to 100 km/h time in its class (7.5 seconds, per the brand).

When it comes to the interior, the 2023 GAC GS3 is a “Mobile Loft” which gives would-be owners a relaxing and refreshing space. The Chinese brand not only offers ambient lighting on the door cards, instrument panel, and air vents, but has also played around with colors offering not just the classic black (with blue accents), but light gray with orange, and even green too.

The wrap-around design of the door panels and dashboard, combined with a concave surface is meant to enhance the feeling of comfort and relaxation. All eyes focus on the crystal shifter as well as the propeller nozzle-inspired air outlets.

Oh, and despite the fashion forward design of the GS3’s interior, GAC Motor hasn’t forgotten that Gen Z buyers also value practicality. With that, it has an increased cargo space (up to 341 liters) and a flat floor.

Powering the all-new GS3 is a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 175 horsepower. Mated to a 7-speed wet-type dual clutch, terminal velocity is pegged at 190 km/h, while fuel economy is an outstanding 14.7 km/L (highway).

Set to go on sale in China in the first quarter of 2023, the GAC GS3 goes against the likes of the Geely Coolray and Ford Territory. Pricing over there starts at a reasonable RMB 85,000 (P 686,121.83).

With GAC Motor having a new distributor in the Philippines in the form of Astara, it will only be a matter of time before they will be offering this compact crossover for the SUV-hungry Filipino buyer. Expect a late-2023 release, if ever.

  1. Happy New Year Uly 😊
I drive an MG 5 Style sedan (and I really like the vehicle), but the Chinese brand I really admire is GAC (just could not buy a GAC vehicle yet). I have always thought that the brand is underrated.
Hoping for success for GAC in our country.

    1. There are MG 5 owners, as shown in YouTube, who have been using the sedan for 3+ years. No problem generally speaking.

    3. Chinese cars will blind you with flashy tech and cheap price but 8 years from now lalabas na mga sira. History will repeat itself. A chinese car is still a chinese car.

  5. GAC manufactures Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi vehicles in China, so the company knows something about durability and reliability.

    1. Its done with Japanese design. Labor lang ang ginawa ng intsik. Iba yun sa Chinese cars na ang design at engineering galing sa utak ng intsik.
