The XC40’s new Boost Hybrid Drive-E engine pairs its 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic. The combined output produces a healthy 264 horsepower and 390 Nm of torque. Together with all-wheel drive, it drops its 0 to 100 km/h time to just 6.4 seconds, while improving its fuel efficiency by up to 15 percent in real-world driving conditions.

Visually communicating the new powertrain, the XC40 gets a refresh thanks to new bumpers, pixel headlights consisting of 84 LEDs, and aerodynamic rims. New exterior color options and new interior options, including Fjord blue carpets and graphic design inlays are available.

Inside, the XC40 continues with its smartly-designed cabin filled with storage spaces. This provides drivers plenty of storage space including a removable bin in the mid-console, a small foldaway hook in the glove compartment, and slots for credit and service cards. For 2023, it gets a new air purifier system that prevents 80 percent of PM 2.5 particles from entering the cabin.

Outfitted in the R-Design trim, the 2023 XC40 features leather seating with power adjustment for the front occupants, a two-zone climate control system, a panoramic sunroof, and a 9-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a Harman Kardon HiFi speaker system.

The XC40 also comes with Volvo’s latest advanced driver assistance systems. Thanks to an array of radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors, it unlocks functionalities such as road user detection, automatic braking, and collision avoidance. For 2023, a new Pilot Assist function allows driver support to start from a standstill all the way to highway speeds.
