Heads up, Nissan Philippines is launching a new variant of its best-selling Terra mid-sized SUV this Saturday, February 25.
While the Terra Sport, as the model’s called, is still shrouded in shadow (like all other teaser photos are), it’s very clear that this won’t be a facelift or refresh. In fact, it looks to build up on the mid-sized SUV’s comprehensive 2019 update.
From what we can tell, the Terra Sport will drop the Terra VL’s copious amounts of exterior chrome in favor of high-gloss black accents. The gloss black accents can be seen on the V-motion grille, front fog lamp surrounds, door mirrors, and door handles. Even the fender trim, roof rails, and alloy wheels also look to sport black finishes.
A quick search over at Nissan Thailand’s website, where Nissan Philippines also sources the Terra SUV, reveals a similar appearance package that’s been launched there. Made to commemorate the 70th year of Nissan’s SUV heritage, the Terra 70th Anniversary Limited Edition package gets the same blacked out treatment as the Philippine-market Terra Sport.
If this is the basis of the Terra Sport, this new variant is bound to get additional high-gloss black highlights to the front fog light area, shark fin antenna, and tailgate garnish. Matte black accents meanwhile are found on the underguards and side step boards. Thankfully, the Philippine market drops the hood sticker. Inside, it drops the two-tone black/burgundy interior for an all-black affair.
At this point, the biggest questions surrounding the Terra Sport would its price and exact variants. Will Nissan Philippines go the same route as Thailand and offer a strictly 4x4 trim? Or will they offer a 4x2 trim of the Terra Sport as well?
Currently, there’s a P 340,000 gap between the Terra 4x2 VL and Terra 4x4 VL (P 2,014,000 and P 2,354,000). It’s very likely that Nissan Philippines will slot in the Terra Sport beneath the top-of-the-line 4x4 VL (priced around P 2.1 million) as a fully-loaded 4x2 model as their answer to the likes of the Ford Everest Sport, Mitsubishi Montero Sport Black Series, and the Toyota Fortuner LTD.

ReplyDeleteSame old same old Japanese carmaker ways of just doing exterior changes without any mechanical, technical or interior upgrade. Its as if the black accents will make you go faster....
