Look: Petron Sends Help To Contain Oriental Mindoro Oil Spill

The country’s leading fuel company, Petron is helping the Philippine government in its efforts to contain an oil spill from a capsized oil tanker in Oriental Mindoro.

Although the incident involving the oil tanker, MT Princess Empress was not carrying any products from the Petron Bataan Refinery, nor is the oil cargo vessel owned by Petron, the company is extending its assistance in the oil spill incident.

Through Waterborne Industry Oil Spill Equipment (WISE) Philippines, whose members also include other oil companies in the country, Petron facilitated the deployment of oil spill equipment needed to contain the product. The WISE vessel is already at the incident site, and is now in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard.

The Petron Bataan Refinery and Petron Mabini Terminal have also extended assistance to the oil spill response team headed by the PCG and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)by making available their oil spill teams and equipment to further aid in containment and clearing operations. Its refinery and operations personnel are adequately trained in operational safety, disaster preparedness, and emergency response including the handling of oil spills.

With major investments for the enhancement of their Refinery, Petron has stopped producing fuel oil since 2016.
